Otis Seals Named Westside Varsity Baseball Coach
Posted February 10, 2020
Otis Seals has been named Head Baseball Coach for the Varsity Baseball program at Westside High School. Seals replaces Bob Greco, who announced his retirement in fall after leading the team for 26 years. Interim Coach Steve Clark will lead the baseball team this spring; Otis will assume Head Coach responsibilities this summer.
“I am extremely honored and excited to be selected for this position; it’s honestly a dream come true for me,” said Seals. “We have a strong senior class this year, and a lot of talented, younger players to build with for the future. As an alumnus, I have a unique passion for the Westside district, the community we serve, and the athletics programs. I cannot wait to continue impacting student-athletes in a different capacity as the head baseball coach.”
Seals is a Social Studies Teacher at Westside High School and has served as an Assistant Coach for the Varsity Baseball team for 10 years. He is also an Assistant Coach for the Westside Varsity Football and Basketball teams.
“I cannot thank Bob Greco enough for all he has done for me in my career,” said Seals. “He is a lot of the reason that I decided to become a teacher and coach in the first place. After playing for him in high school, he has become one of the greatest mentors in my life as a coach. I have learned a great deal from Coach Greco during my 10 years with him and have tremendous respect for him as a coach and person. It means the world to me that I have the opportunity to head the baseball program after him. I also want to thank both Coach Jim Simons and Coach Steve Clark who have served as great mentors and coaches that I have learned a lot from and have the deepest respect for.”
Westside Athletic Director Tom Kerkman conducted an internal and external search for the position before offering the position to Seals.
“Otis brings a great deal of passion to the program,” said Kerkman. “Not only does he have great knowledge of the game, he is on the cutting edge with technology and training as the game changes. We are fortunate to have Steve and Otis working together this spring.”
“First and foremost, I look forward to continuing the rich tradition of excellence that Coach Greco has built with Westside Baseball over the years,” said Seals. “I also want to impact our student-athletes in the same positive ways Westside Athletics has impacted me. I want to continue to use athletics as a way to build meaningful relationships while maintaining a common purpose.”
The Westside 2020 Varsity Baseball season begins March 19.
