Project SEARCH Graduates
- Congratulations to Westside’s nine 2019 graduates of the Project SEARCH program! These students worked hard all year through a partnership between Children’s Hospital and Medical Center and Westside’s Special Services department. Many of these graduates now have full-time jobs lined up! Congratulations, Warriors – we are proud of you!

Grant Jabenis, Westside High School
- Congratulations to Grant Jabenis, 2019 Individual Metro Conference Champion for Boys Varsity Golf! Grant, who also played in the US Open Qualifying Round at Champions Run this month, was a top finisher at the NSAA State Championships!
UNMC Alliance Graduates
- Congratulations to Westside’s five UNMC High School Alliance graduates! This highly selective program allows students to observe, shadow, and take college-level classes from University of Nebraska Medical Center doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, public health advocates, researchers and other health care professionals. Students, if accepted after applying as sophomores and juniors, attend Westside High in the morning and attend classes at UNMC every afternoon, studying a range of health care topics, such as human anatomy, biomedical research, and medical decision-making.

NCPA Academic All-State Awards, Spring 2019
- The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) is pleased to announce the student recipients of the Spring 2018-19 Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association (NCPA) Academic All-State Awards. Since 2006 this NSAA Award Program has recognized students who meet the criteria for nomination by their school in the season of their activity. Each year the NSAA and the NCPA recognize students during Fall, Winter and Spring Seasons who are nominated by their schools for their individual academic excellence, leadership and significant contributions in their NSAA activity.

Emily Kutler, Westside High School
- Congratulations to Emily Kutler, Senior at Westside High School, who reinstated WHS as a No Place for Hate school. Emily was awarded the Anti-Defamation League Bucky Greenberg Scholarship earlier this month.

Tommy Rowe, Westside High School
- Congratulations to Tommy Rowe, senior at Westside High School, and winner of the Horatio Alger Denny Sanford Scholar. He will receive $10,000 towards his Bachelors Degree at the University of South Dakota. Way to go, Tommy!
Westside DECA Team
- Congratulations to the Westside DECA team, who represented our district and state well at the 2019 National Competition in Florida! 18 Westside students placed in the Top 20% at the National DECA championships, an amazing accomplishment, as there are over 15,000 students that competed!

Seal of Biliteracy Recipients, Westside High School
- Congratulations to the Westside World Languages students who have earned the Seal of Biliteracy! These students have taken a nationally recognized exam and scored high enough to be certified as literate in two languages. The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by our school district in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. Recipients will have this seal on their transcript as a statement of accomplishment for future employers and for college admissions. The Seal of Biliteracy is a statement of accomplishment awarded that indicates the mastery of two or more languages is important. It honors the skills our students attain and helps to signal evidence of a student’s readiness for career and college, as well as for engagement as a global citizen.

Erik Henry, Westside High School
- Congratulations to Westside High School senior Erik Henry, chosen as one of 10 students to participate in the Geoscience Bridge Program! This is a field camp to help students explore the geology of Nebraska, the Medicine Bow Mountains and the Black Hills.This event will be in July of 2019 and provides a unique opportunity for students to determine if a career in the geosciences is the correct path for them.
