Whole Foods Market Donates Thousands To Oakdale Community Club
Whole Foods Market presents Oakdale Elementary’s Community Club with more than $3,700, after choosing the Westside Community Schools organization as its final 2017 5% Community Support Day beneficiary.
This was the first time Whole Foods Market Omaha has selected a school to benefit from their quarterly Community Support Day, a community giving program event celebrated by company locations throughout the country. For every purchase made on September 20, 2017, Whole Foods Market donated back 5% of the day’s net sales. The Oakdale Community Club spread the word among families, and sales on this day at the Omaha Whole Foods Market location increased an estimated 4.74%.
Whole Foods Market presented a check to Oakdale Elementary on Tuesday November 21. The Oakdale Community Club will use this money to assist staff with programs, to enhance special events and activities, and to plant a community garden at the site of their new school when it opens in January.
“Our relationship with Oakdale Elementary began years ago with a $2,500 grant to the school through our Whole Kids Foundation to build the school’s first community garden,” said Cassandra Zywiec, Senior Marketing Specialist for Whole Foods Market. “When we decided as a company to work with local schools for this quarter’s 5% Day, I knew right away we had to partner with Oakdale to support the new building and to help expand the existing garden program. We look forward to partnering with the school in the spring to break ground, and to support ongoing programming throughout the school year to help educate students on the importance of incorporating fresh, locally grown foods into their daily diets.”
In addition, Whole Foods Market presented more than 300 students and nearly 100 staff members with gift cards to use over the holidays.
“This program definitely makes a difference,” said Jasonea Shockey, President-Elect of the Oakdale Community Club. “This is huge for Oakdale.”
