Westside Wrestling strong at Districts, sends 7 to state
With a team at full strength for the first time this season, the Westside Varsity Wrestling Team earned a 1st Runner-Up plaque at Districts, and will send 7 athletes to NSAA State Finals.
The Warriors competed in Kearney over the weekend, with 11 wrestlers taking part.
“No one was sick, no one was injured, and the guys that deserved it, got the call,” said Head Coach Michael Jernigan. “Every wrestler contributed to the earning of the runner-up award in some way. Even if an individual didn’t score any team points, they were the ones responsible for making their workout better and supporting their teammates throughout the day in the corner!”
The seven qualifiers this year that will be representing Westside High School at NSAA State Finals will be:
- Michael Colling – 106 (3rd)
- Jeromy Nielsen – 113 (3rd)
- Trey Nielsen – 132 (4th)
- DeAndre Hill – 138 (3rd)
- Josh Jansa – 152 (Champion)
- Deuce Miller-Johnston – 170 (2nd)
- Darlondo Hill – 182 – (Champion)
- Dakota Kozol, Elijah Marburg, KJ Elliott, and Julian Bingham also competed at Districts helping the team to victory
NSAA State Wrestling Tournament kicks off this Thursday. The Warriors will be wrestling in the early sessions (Sessions 1, 3, 5, 6) on Thursday and Friday. The finals will be televised Saturday on NET starting at 2:00pm.
“Thanks for the continued support!” said Coach Jernigan. “Thanks to DJ Rezac and KB Building Services for the wonderful coats for districts!”
