Westside students qualify for History Bee Nationals
Nine Westside students have qualified for national competition after ranking at the top of the field in the regional history bee.
Seven WMS students competed in this year’s event. Paul Suder, Virginia Jansen, Brendan Pennington, Peter Voller and Milena Morris will travel to Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia this June. Eddie Morrissette and Erin Mosier also competed for Westside.
This is the 5th year in a row Westside Middle School students, coached by Westside SEcondary EY Coordinator Kristen Job, have qualified for national competition.
The Westside High School team will also compete at nationals, after winning the Iowa regional competition over the weekend. Theo Jansen, Reese Pike, Ethan Yaroch and Maryam Akramova will represent WHS; Jansen won the Individual Bee portion of competition, while Pike and Yaroch tied for 4th.
“They played over 10 rounds and answered 340 questions in one day,” said Job. “It was pretty amazing!”
