Westside student makes history with 3rd State Geography Bee Championship

Westside Middle School student Brendan Pennington made history Friday, winning the Nebraska Geography Bee for a third time.

Brendan was one of five Westside students among the field of 100 from across the state competing for the championship and the opportunity to represent Nebraska at the National Geography Bee. (Click here to learn more!)  Brendan, who also attended Prairie Lane Elementary, receives $100, an atlas, and his expenses to the national competition in Washington DC will be paid.

“This is probably unheard of in state competition, winning 3 times!” said Kristen Job, Brendan’s coach and Westside Secondary EY Coordinator.  “He set a state record in Nebraska for winning 3 times!”

The National Geography Bee will take place May 14-May 17.  The winner will receive a $50,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.  Brendan will be honored by the Westside Board of Education in April.
