Paddock Road Named 2017 National Blue Ribbon School
Westside Community Schools is proud to announce Paddock Road Elementary School has been named a 2017 Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.
September 28, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recognized 342 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2017, including Westside’s Paddock Road Elementary. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
“National Blue Ribbon Schools are active demonstrations of preparing every child for a bright future,” said Secretary DeVos, in a release from the Department of Education. “You are visionaries, innovators and leaders. You have much to teach us: some of you personalize student learning, others engage parents and communities in the work and life of your local schools and still others develop strong and forward-thinking leaders from among your teaching staff.”
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors schools where students achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap. This coveted award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. The Secretary and the Department of Education will celebrate with these honorees at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. November 6-7. CLICK HERE for more information.

“Students here at Paddock Road are regularly testing in the top 15 percent in the state for both reading and math,” said Becker. “This award recognizes all of the hard work that is put in each day by both students and teachers here at Paddock. This award is also a reflection of the team effort that goes into making the student experience at Paddock Road so positive.”
Superintendent Dr. Blane McCann, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Enid Schonewise, Board of Education President Beth Morrissette, and Board Secretary Doug Krenzer all attended the assembly to congratulate and support Paddock Road students and staff.
“Personally, I would like to thank our school community, parents, and families for their support and partnership in the student learning here at Paddock,” said Becker. “I would like to thank the Westside Community School District. This includes our school board, Dr. McCann and the district leadership team, and the previous leadership here at Paddock Road who have worked so hard to pave the way for our students and staff. Finally, I want to take the time to recognize all of you – students, teachers, educational assistants, administrative assistants, building engineers, nutrition services. It is your hard work, dedication, time served, and relationships built that makes Paddock Road what it is…A National Blue Ribbon School.”
