Middle School Students invited to World Language Event
The World Language Department at Westside High School invites all seventh and eighth grade students interested in taking a language during high school to our “World Language Eat and Greet”. This event will take place at the high school on Friday, January 19th from 4:00 to 5:30. Students will get to meet the language teachers at the high school, hear the languages spoken, and learn about the language program and its offerings. They also will get to have a traditional snack from a country represented by our languages, play games, do crafts, and have fun all while getting an introduction to some of the activities that take place in high school language classrooms. This event is a complement to the 8th grade orientation that will take place later on in January. It will allow both students and parents an opportunity to get necessary information to make a decision about which language to take in high school, as well as provide more support in the transition for students from middle to high school.
With weather permitting, volunteer language students from the high school will wait outside the middle school at 3:30 and walk with students. Each middle school student will check in and be in a group of no more than 10 students per volunteer. If the weather does not permit, students will need to arrange with their parents to be dropped off at the front of the high school so they can still safely attend the event. Your child will need picked up at 5:30 in front of the high school.
If you are interested in reserving a place for your child to attend this event, please sign up using the link below. Space is limited to 50 students, so please sign up early! This event filled up quickly last year. Contact Sarah Percival, the high school World Language Department Chair (firstname.lastname@example.org), for any questions.
