Leaders, Learners Celebrate New Westside Boys & Girls Club

Both organizations, along with dozens of students from Westbrook Elementary, took part in the ceremony on Tuesday, May 8 at the site of the new club.

For 13 years, the Westside Boys & Girls Club has provided a safe, fulfilling environment for learners to spend time after school. This brand new facility will continue our joint mission to help children ages 6 to 18 learn and grown in a fun and safe place with caring staff.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands is honored to continue our partnership with Westside Community Schools,” said Ivan Gilreath, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Club of the Midlands. “Our after school program at Westbrook Elementary will have a newly built facility that will be safe, fun and equipped with a state of the art Innovation Center that will have the latest and greatest technology, including a drone obstacle course. This Center will also be available to the school during school hours. Our partnership will provide opportunities to assist youth in being successful academically and socially.”

“Our job as educators is to help our learners grow into the best overall people they can possibly be,” said Tyler Hottovy, Principal of Westbrook Elementary. “This beautiful new facility, right next door to Westbrook, ensures children will continue learning and growing in a positive environment every day when they leave school. We are also excited that the top floor will be a shared innovation space between the club and the school that all students will benefit all Westbrook students.”

Holland Basham Architects is designing the new facility, and Ronco Construction will complete construction at the site. The construction of the Westside Boys & Girls Club will begin at the conclusion of the the school year later this month.
