Camp Westside scheduled for Summer 2018

ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE: Where will your summer adventure be? 10 students move forward in State Geography Bee competition

During the week of Dec. 4, all 10 Westside elementary schools held a School Geography Bee.  This was the first round in the 30th annual National Geographic Bee, a geography competition designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world. Westside Foundation to open new childcare center

The Westside Foundation will open a new child care center in 2019 for up to 100 students inside what is now Countryside Church. The future owners of the church, Coram Deo, entered into the agreement with the Foundation this fall. 2018 Caucus Date, Rules Set

The 2018 Caucus will be held Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Westside High School, 8701 Pacific St.  Voter sign-in begins at 6 p.m. and the Caucus will begin at 7 p.m. The Caucus is held to select up to four candidates for two positions on the Westside Community Schools Board of Education. Leaders, Community Members Discuss School Boundaries

Westside Community Schools leaders and community members joined in November to discuss growth throughout the District in both student population and school buildings. Discussions included the pros and cons of moving geographic boundaries, however, no final decisions have been made. Oakdale Open House Set For December 14

The public is invited to tour the brand new Oakdale Elementary, Thursday December 14th from 5:30pm – 7:00pm. Design team members from DLR Group, as well as project leaders from Project Advocates, will be on hand to offer insight and details. Brandon Moore, 6th Grader at Rockbrook Elementary, will represent Westside Community Schools at the Omaha World Herald’s Midwest Spelling Bee in Spring 2018. The Westside Cycling Team has won the Nebraska state cycling championship for a fourth consecutive year. The overall team championship is awarded to the school that has earned the most points over the course of the season in all four categories combined. Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert’s office has announced they have directed the Traffic Engineering Division to reevaluate plans to remove at traffic light at 108th and Oak due to its proximity to a school. Just before 12:30 Friday, staff at Westside Middle School noted smoke in the building and called 911. They immediately evacuated students safely outside. Westside voters have approved a measure allowing District 66 to raise its levy ceiling. Schools briefly placed in Lock Out Thursday

Just after 8:30 this morning, we placed several of our schools into Lock Out due to an incident near 80th and Harney. Loveland, Swanson and Westside High School were all placed in Lock Out (no one, other than students, were allowed to enter the building) for approximately 20 minutes out of an abundance of caution. ALL SCHOOLS ARE NOW CLEAR and classes have resumed as usual.

Legendary Westside coach and educator Cal Bentz died Tuesday after a hard fought battle with cancer.
